Body Found in Wando River Identified

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) _ The body that was recovered from the Wando River in Mount Pleasant has been identified as a missing man.

Charleston County Deputy Coroner Sheila Williams tells media outlets that the body, found Tuesday, was that of 45-year-old Clifford Raynard Palmer. The cause of death is still under investigation.

A news release from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office says Palmer was reported missing Feb. 6 by his girlfriend. He was last seen leaving the scene of a crash on U.S. Highway 41 near Huger. He was wanted by the South Carolina Highway Patrol for leaving the scene and driving on a suspended license.

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death.
