Kacinas Named to 2016 SEC Community Service Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (USC SID) — In a continuing effort to recognize the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the field of competition, the SEC once again highlighted a Community Service Team for men’s basketball for the 2015-16 campaign. Senior forward Mindaugas Kacinas was named to the team this season for South Carolina.

Kacinas has volunteered at numerous community outreach events during his time at South Carolina. During his senior season he participated in the second annual “8K In 8 Days” campaign, visiting with children from the Epworth Children’s Home and also at the “Moving and Learning with Gamecock Basketball” event at a local city park in Columbia. Kacinas joined teammates in delivering flowers to cancer patients at Palmetto Health Hospitals, while he also helped at a Red Cross Shelter following the historic and devastating floods in Columbia last October. During his four years on campus, Kacinas has also volunteered with Transitions, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Special Olympics, Harvest Hope Food Bank and numerous other events and causes throughout the midlands.

Kacinas is averaging career highs in nearly every statistical category during his senior season, averaging 10.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game in 29.1 minutes per outing. He has three 20-point performances, including a career high 23 points vs. DePaul, and most recently a team high 21 points vs. Georgia on March 3. Kacinas ranks among Carolina’s best in career games played (128) and career field goal percentage (53.4 percent), ranking in the top 10 in both categories.
