Local media outlets report the board of trustees met for four hours behind closed doors Tuesday to discuss the search. But no action or votes were taken.

Trustee Doris Helms heads the presidential search committee and says the board hopes to hire a professional search firm by May to submit possible candidates.

The budget proposed by the House Ways and Means Committee gives the university until the end of December to hire a president as a condition for approving next year’s budget.

W. Franklin Evans has led the university for the past year since former President Thomas Elzey was removed by the previous board.
