Man Charged with Assaulting a Deputy
Richland County Sheriff's Deputies say a man is behind bars after shoplifting and assaulting a deputy Friday night.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – Richland County Sheriff’s Deputies say a man is behind bars after shoplifting and assaulting a deputy Friday night.
Officials said they responded to the Circle K at 8500 Two Notch Rd. around 8 p.m. They were there to arrest Marvinyo White for shoplifting. Deputies said he took an alcoholic drink without paying and left, returning shortly after.
The department said upon initiating the arrest, White attacked the deputy, throwing him to the ground.
After the officer was able to handcuff White, he was taken to Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and charged with shoplifting, resisting arrest and assault on a deputy.
The deputy was taken to Palmetto Health Richland with non-life threatening injuries.
