Thousands walked through downtown Columbia Saturday, to raise money and awareness for heart health

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – Thousands walked through downtown Columbia Saturday, to raise money and awareness for heart health.

Did you know that 1 in 3 adults has some form of heart disease? The American Heart Association reports that 80 percent of heart diseases are preventable with lifestyle changes.

The 2016 Midlands Heart Walk is designed to promote physical activity and initiate heart-healthy living, while raising funds for the A.H.A.

Organizers said about 5,000 people took part in this year’s three mile walk.

After the race, participants were treated to live music, healthy snacks and information on preventing heart disease and strokes.
