Super Tuesday: Round Three Results
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Republican and Democratic presidential front runners are one step closer to clinching their parties’ nominations after Tuesday’s primaries.
Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump’s lead in the race for delegates is growing, with confirmed primary wins in North Carolina, Illinois and Florida on Tuesday.
Ohio Gov. John Kasich notched his first and only victory of the primary season by carrying his home state, but he has the fewest delegates of anyone still in the running.
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio has dropped out of the race.
It’s been a big night for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who has won primaries in Florida, Ohio, Illinois and North Carolina.
Clinton’s rival Bernie Sanders has released a statement congratulation Clinton on her victories. Florida is the biggest delegate prize and Clinton now has about two-thirds of the delegates needed to clinch the Democratic nomination.
The race is tight in Missouri for the Democrats and the Republicans in the presidential primaries.
With 98.8 percent of precincts reporting in the state, the races between Republicans Donald Trump and Ted Cruz and Democrats Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are less than one-half of one percentage point. That means the losing candidate can request a recount.
