Passenger Dies in Crash as Van Tries to Elude Deputies
DARLINGTON, S.C. (AP) — Authorities are investigating after a Chesterfield County woman was killed in the crash of a van fleeing sheriff’s deputies.
Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee tells local media outlets that 28-year-old Jennifer Lee Sims was killed Monday evening when the van she was in with three other people ran off a road near Hartsville and overturned.
The three other people were critically injured.
Deputies began the chase after spotting the driver of the van who was wanted in a weekend strong arm robbery.
Sheriff Wayne Byrd says the other three people in the van were wanted in the robbery but Sims only knew them.
