Police: Man Dies After Being Struck by Cement Truck
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Officials with the Columbia Police Department say a man was struck and killed by a cement truck Thursday morning.
The announcement made via Twitter, said the pedestrian was hit by the truck near the intersection of Main Street and Elmwood Avenue.
According to a preliminary investigation, CPD officials say the pedestrian was utilizing the crosswalk at the intersection and was traveling south along Main Street.
As the pedestrian was crossing Elmwood Avenue, the cement truck made a right turn striking the pedestrian, officials say.
The incident is still being investigated by the traffic safety unit.
Officers will consult with the solicitor’s office to determine if charges will be filed.
CPD officials are reviewing surveillance video to gather additional information.
