A Florence man faces charges after officers say he stole Swan eggs.
SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO) — A Florence man faces charges after officers say he stole swan eggs.
Sumter Police say visitors at Swan Lake Iris Gardens notified park rangers late Sunday afternoon after seeing a man enter an enclosed area at the park and remove a small number of Swan eggs from a nest.
A park ranger called police. When officers arrived they say they found the eggs in William Christopher McLaughlin’s vehicle.
Park officials estimate the eggs are each valued at between $1,400 and $4,500.
McLaughlin, 30, is charged with grand larceny. He was taken to the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center. McLaughlin bonded out of jail Monday.
No word on a motive. The investigation is ongoing.
