Victim Found Along US 176 Identified
NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) — Several agencies are continuing their investigation into the death of a man whose body was found on the side of US 176 near Molly’s Rock Road early Monday morning.
Investigators from the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office, Whitmire Police Department and SLED are leading the investigation into why 62-year-old Jesse Sanders was shot to death.
The Newberry County Coroner identified the Whitmire man as the victim on Tuesday.
Sanders’ body was seen Monday, April 11 just after 7 a.m. by a passing motorist.
Officials say investigator believing that the possible identity of the victim was Sanders, went to his residence located on Byrd Street in the Town of Whitmire.
Once inside, officials say there were obvious signs of a struggle throughout the home.
Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster says that it appears the incident began at the victim’s home in the Town of Whitmire and that he was taken to the location on Highway 176 from his home by the suspect or suspect(s).
Sanders died of multiple gunshot wounds to his body.
