Three Tiger Teams Earn NCAA APR Awards

CLEMSON, S.C. (CAC) — Three Clemson programs were honored for outstanding achievement in the classroom when the NCAA released its Academic Performance Public Recognition Awards. The football program ranks among the top 10 percent of all FBS programs nationally in the APR, the sixth-consecutive year the program has had a top 10 percent ranking. Clemson’s women’s golf earned the honor for the second-consecutive year, and the men’s basketball program joined this year as well for the first time. 2016 marks the second straight year with three Tiger teams honored, matching last year’s school record.

Clemson is one of only nine universities to have had their football and men’s basketball programs honored during the same academic year since the rating system’s adoption in 2004-05.

“This is a tremendous achievement for these three programs,” Director of Athletics Dan Radakovich said. “It’s a testament to the work of our coaches and the support team at Vickery Hall for the culture they help create and a compliment to the dedication of each of our student-athletes.”

Clemson’s football team is one of only three FBS programs ranked in the top 10 percent each of the last six years, joining Duke and Northwestern. Clemson is the only FBS program nationally to finish each of the last five seasons in the top 25 of both polls on the field, and in the top 10 percent of APR scores in the classroom.

The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2011-2012, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years.
