SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO) – Officials with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office say they are investigating a stabbing that occurred Friday morning at Pilgrim’s Pride.

The incident occurred at the chicken processing plant, located on US Highway 15 south of Sumter.

Police say that the incident began when two workers were fired for allegedly smelling of alcohol at work.

The female victim was airlifted to a local hospital.

Authorities initially said a female suspect was detained; however, following a preliminary investigation they now say workers on the assembly line were sent home.

Workers that left the scene still need to be interviewed, officials say.

This is a developing story stay with ABC Columbia for more details.
