WATCH: Drive Snaps Fireflies Win Streak

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Fireflies) — The Fireflies jumped out to an early lead against Greenville on Friday, but couldn’t hold it, falling 8-3, at Spirit Communications Park. Columbia’s four-game win streak was snapped.
David Thompson doubled off of Roniel Raudes (W, 2-0) to start the bottom of the second inning and scored when Joe Tuschak singled. Thompson’s streak continued, though — the third-baseman’s hitting streak was stretched to nine games.
Greenville (5-4) tied the game up in the third, and took a one-run edge when Josh Ockimey homered off of Fireflies starter Thomas McIlraith (L, 1-1) in the fourth. The deficit was stretched to two in the fifth frame after Mitch Gunsolus’ run-scoring single. The Drive then exploded for five runs in the sixth.
Columbia (5-4) attempted to mount a mini-rally in the seventh. Ivan Wilson slugged a double to the left-centerfield wall and scored following Jose Garcia’s base hit. J.C. Rodriguez then drove in Garcia to cut the deficit to 8-3.
The Fireflies are back at it on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. against Greenville. Lefty Kevin Canelon (0-0, 4.50) faces Drive righty Daniel Gonzalez (1-0, 0.00).
