ABOUT LAST GAME: The Fireflies’ four-game win streak was snapped on Friday night after the team fell to Greenville, 8-3. Ivan Wilson showed his strength at the plate, though, collecting two hits — including a double — and also drawing a walk.
ANOTHER STREAK CONTINUES: Even though Columbia’s four-game win streak came to an end, David Thompson’s hitting streak continued. The third-baseman from Miami has hit safely in nine straight games. Only one other player in the South Atlantic League has recorded a hit in every game this season (Alex Murphy, Delmarva Shorebirds). Thompson is also third in the SAL in RBIs (9) and tied for third in extra-base hits (6).
TEAM LEADERS:
AVG: .346, Vinny Siena
Runs: 7, Vinny Siena
2Bs: 4, David Thompson & Ivan Wilson
RBIs: 9, David Thompson
TUSCHAK IS HOME: Joe Tuschak has taken over as Columbia’s starting left fielder. The Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, native has ties to South Carolina, committing to Coastal Carolina (before signing with the Mets) in high school and vacationing to Hilton Head Island and Myrtle Beach annually with his family.
ROSTER MOVE: On Saturday, Columbia placed catcher Jose Garcia on the disabled list and activated catcher Natanael Ramos, who began the year on Columbia’s disabled list.
