RiverDogs Shutout Fireflies, 7-0 Tuesday Night
COLUMBIA, SC (Fireflies PR) — After 13 runs on Monday, the Columbia bats went quiet on Tuesday at Spirit Communications Park, losing to the RiverDogs, 7-0. Charleston lefty Josh Rogers (W, 2-1) pitched 7.2 scoreless innings en route to the victory. Tuesday was the first time the Fireflies failed to score in a game this year.
His counterpart, Chase Ingram (L, 1-1), battled through six frames, surrendering just three earned runs. Thairo Estrada led off the top of first inning with a solo home run over the left-field wall. Charleston (10-3) added another run in the inning to go up 2-0.
The RiverDogs’ three and four hitters — Trey Amburgey and Jhalan Jackson — plated runs in the third and fifth frames, but Ingram bounced back and retired the side in order in the sixth. The score was 4-0 heading to the seventh.
Charleston built on its four-run advantage, scoring three runs in the seventh and eighth innings — including solo homers from Estrada and Drew Bridges — and led 7-0.
Dash Winningham, Tucker Tharp and Milton Ramos notched the lone Columbia (6-7) hits. Tharp has now hit safely in all four games he’s played in this season.
Nicco Blank was effective out of the bullpen, too. The right-hander from Tuscon, Arizona, tossed a one-two-three top of the ninth inning.
The rubber match of the three-game series is Wednesday morning at 11:05 a.m. The Fireflies lean on southpaw P.J. Conlon (1-0, 1.69) to battle righty Cody Carrol (0-0, 1.23) at Spirit Communications Park.
The game will not be carried live on the air, but will be re-broadcast on WGCV 620 AM and 105.1 FM and the TuneIn Radio app at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening.
