BCSO Chief Deputy Mike Cochran said there was an officer-involved shooting but all law enforcement on the scene are okay.
He said the suspect is in custody but would not say if the suspect was shot or injured.
BCSO officials said that they did not shoot out the suspect’s tires as other media outlets have reported but did confirm that the suspect was accused of kidnapping two people.
Media partners SConFire reported the incident started with a police chase and that one person was airlifted to the hospital.
All lanes of I-95 southbound are blocked according to South Carolina Department of Transportation officials.
State Law Enforcement Division spokesman Thom Berry confirms they have been notified of the incident and they are sending agents along with crime scene technicians. He said they are having to fly out because of mounting traffic back ups on I-95.
Clarendon County deputies, South Carolina Highway Patrol, and Holly Hill Police also responded.
