Community Help Leads to Arrest of Suspect

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WOLO) – A man facing charges of possession with intent to distribute marijuana, and unlawful carry of a pistol has been taken into custody by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said the arrest of 19-year-old William Watson came with the assistance of concerned citizens in the Starlight Community.

Authorities say that on Thursday, April 21 the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Community Action Team (C.A.T.) while conducting night time patrols on the 3900 block of Candlelite Drive, observed Watson throw a 9mm handgun on the ground behind a vehicle, then attempted to flee.

After a foot chase deputies caught Watson; he was captured with a large quantity of marijuana packaged for sale, and over $400 in cash, officials say.

Watson has been transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
