SAUSALITO, Calif. (KABC) — Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur Davis, died Monday night in Northern California of a possible heart attack, Marin County Sheriff’s Department officials confirmed. She was 69.

In a series of tweets, sheriff’s officials said deputies responded to reports of a possible cardiac arrest around 9:34 p.m. at her home in Sausalito. She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly before 10:30 p.m.

The sheriff’s office will lead an investigation to determine the exact cause and manner of Davis’ death.

Her son, Tupac Shakur, was shot several times while leaving a boxing event in Las Vegas in 1996.
