Marcus Lattimore to Join Football Coaching Staff at Heathwood Hall

Marcus LattimoreCOLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Former Gamecock standout Marcus Lattimore will join the football coaching staff at Heathwood Hall.

Last month, the former San Francisco 49er turned down a job to join the coaching staff at the University of South Carolina to focus on his foundation.

In a statement Lattimore says, “First, I want to thank Jeff Whalen, his staff, and Heathwood Hall Episcopal School for welcoming me with open arms. This has been an easy process, and I’m excited to get to work with this team and this great staff. I was fortunate enough to play this game for 16 years, and have been around great coaches, who were teachers of the game.”

Lattimore said his philosophy is simple: “Play with 100% effort on the field, and give 100% effort every day. I’ve always focused on the fundamentals, which will be my focus everyday working with our players, particularly our running backs. Together, we’ll work to help our student-athletes improve both on and off the field.”

“We are extremely excited to have Marcus Lattimore join our football staff at Heathwood Hall,” Athletic Director Jeff Whalen said in the statement. “Not only will Marcus bring his knowledge of football to the Highlander staff, but more importantly he will be able to share with our athletes the three pillars of commitment that are part of the basis of his Marcus Lattimore Foundation. Combining this with the excellence that Heathwood Hall offers to student athletes will lead to a winning formula.” .

“We are so excited to welcome Marcus Lattimore to our football staff. Not only is he an accomplished football player, but a favorite son of South Carolina,” Heathwood Hall Head of School Chris Hinchey said in the statement. “We are most excited that Marcus’s life has been committed to the development of young people and the mentoring of successful young adults.”

Lattimore graduated from the University of South Carolina on Friday.

Heathwood will open Spring Football practice on May 16th.
