Fireflies-Drive Game One Suspended Saturday

By: Fireflies
GREENVILLE, SC (Fireflies) — Due to a technical issue with the left-field light tower at Fluor Field, Saturday night’s game between Columbia and Greenville was suspended after four and a half innings. The game will resume – beginning with the bottom of the fifth – on Sunday starting at 2 p.m. Sunday’s originally scheduled game at 4:05 p.m. will go off as planned but will be a seven inning game.
The Fireflies led, 5-0, heading to the bottom of the fifth when both managers were summoned by both umpires and Greenville General Manager Eric Jarinko. After a 12-minute delay, the light tower would still not fully illuminate, causing the suspension of play.
Columbia starter Tyler Badamo was cruising through four innings. The righty surrendered just two hits and struck out four batters. Jeff Diehl’s grand slam in the top of fifth broke the ballgame open. It was the first grand slam in franchise history and Diehl’s team-leading fourth – his third at Fluor Field.
Live coverage of Sunday’s games begin at 1:45 p.m. on WGCV 620 AM, 105.1  and 96.3 FM, ColumbiaFireflies.com and the TuneIn Radio app. Righty Joe Shaw (2-1, 2.57) goes for the Fireflies in the second game of the series against Drive right-hander Daniel Gonzalez (1-1, 4.88).
