Coroner IDs Triple Homicide Victims in Ravenel Shooting
RAVENEL, S.C. (WCIV) — Two women and a child were killed and a third woman was wounded after a shooting at a Ravenel mobile home park Tuesday.
The Charleston County coroner has identified the victims as 55-year-old Betty Mungin, 29-year-old Alexis Mungin, and 8-year-old Armani Mungin. The coroner also said Alexis Mungin was pregnant at her time of death.
Charleston County Sheriff’s deputies say they arrested a suspect while responding to a call of shots fired and a possible domestic situation at 5360 Savannah Highway about 1:30 p.m.
The suspect, 23-year-old Kenneth Ancrum of that address, is charged with three counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and weapons possession. Deputies say more murder charges will be filed Wednesday, which is when Ancrum is expected to appear in bond court.
Sheriff Al Cannon says the first deputy to arrive stopped the suspect attempting to leave the mobile home park in a car with a woman who had been shot in the leg.
“As far as I’m concerned the deputy saved the life of the woman that was in the car who had a gunshot wound,” Cannon said.
More deputies arrived and found the bodies of adult women and a female child inside the house. All three had been shot, Cannon said.
Deputies also found a four-month-old baby who didn’t appear to be harmed. The baby was taken to the Department of Social Services while the wounded woman was taken to the Medical University Hospital.
Sheriff Al Cannon said the shooting appeared to have stemmed from a domestic dispute.
Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims. Coroner Rae Wooten said the autopsies will be done Wednesday.
Ancrum has been arrested before.
He was charged with second-degree criminal domestic violence in August. The charge was later dropped.
Ninth Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson said Ancrum’s girlfriend, Quiwanna Mungin was four months pregnant in August when she reportedly learned Ancrum was with another woman.
In that previous incident, Mungin confronted Ancrum and the woman at a home when authorities say Mungin allegedly punched the other woman after she found her lying naked in bed, Wilson said.
Wilson said Mungin’s mother and sister also joined in and Ancrum tried to break up the fight. Wilson said Mungin was punched in the eye and stomach but she told deputies she didn’t know who hit her.
Wilson said her mother told deputies it was Ancrum who hit Mungin and he was charged.
Mungin was charged with third-degree assault and battery while her mother and sister were charged with destruction of property after a window was damaged.
Wilson said Mungin tried to get the charge dropped against Ancrum and her mother later denied seeing Ancrum hit her daughter. The charge against Ancrum was later dropped for lack of evidence, Wilson said.
The charge against Mungin was also dropped after the woman didn’t show up in court.
Wilson said Mungin eventually gave birth to Ancrum’s child.
