RiverDogs Edge Fireflies 2-1
CHARLESTON, S.C. (Fireflies) — Charleston broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning and Columbia came out on the wrong end of a 2-1 final at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park. The Fireflies squandered a nice start from Tyler Badamo – the righty tossed five innings of one-run ball. The RiverDogs scored their first run with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. Charleston (26-14) strung together three straight singles and the last – off of Kendall Coleman’s bat – plated Audie Afenir.
The following frame, the visitors knotted up the score. Kevin Kaczmarski reached on an error committed by Charleston first baseman Chris Gittens. The next batter, Vinny Siena, crushed a fastball to straightaway center field that one-hopped the wall. Kaczmarski scored all the way from first base.
Columbia (20-21) righty Tyler Bashlor (L, 0-1) relieved Badamo in the sixth inning and faced the minimum in his first two innings. He sent down the first two batters he faced in the eighth before issuing a walk to Angel Aguilar. With the hit-and-run on, Jhalan Jackson bounced a ground ball to third base. J.C. Rodriguez fielded it cleanly but threw wide of the first base bag, and the error enabled Aguilar to come home.
Cody Carroll (W, 2-1) pitched four scoreless innings for Charleston.
