Police: Teen Arrested After Having Gun on School Grounds

gunatscschool-bmp_bim.jpgRICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) – A teen has been arrested Monday afternoon for allegedly carrying a handgun to school.

Authorities say the parent of the W G Sanders Middle School student notified Richland County Sheriff’s Department Gang Investigators that he located a handgun in his son’s backpack just before school on May 23.

Just before 1 p.m., during an investigation a Richland County Sheriff’s Department School Resource Officer located a second handgun in his backpack.

The 14-year-old was arrested and faces charges of possession of a weapon on school grounds, possession of a weapon under the age of 18, and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

No one at the school was injured.
