ABOUT LAST GAME: The Fireflies took a 3-0 lead over West Virginia in the first inning on Thursday night and never looked back, winning 4-2. The top three in the order – Vinny Siena, Kevin Kaczmarski and J.C. Rodriguez – drove in and scored all four runs. The trio finished 4-for-11.

WHAT’S AT STAKE: Columbia is looking for its fifth straight win on Friday. It would be the longest win streak of the season. Columbia won four straight games twice in the month of April as well.

THE FINAL FOUR: Fans can vote at this link for Spirit Communications Park in Ballpark Digest’s “Best of the Ballparks” competition. Spirit Communications Park – rated a three-seed out of 30 Low-A Minor League ballparks – has advanced to the semi-finals and is slotted against two-seed Parkview Field (Fort Wayne TinCaps – Midwest League, San Diego Padres). Voting for the semi-final round ends Monday, May 30 at 10:00 p.m. Ironically, both teams are owned by Hardball Capital.

KING KAZ: Kevin Kaczmarski has six hits in his last three games and three of those hits are doubles. The outfielder has also driven in seven runs over the last three. He had plated just five runs in his first 26 games.

THE OTHER GUYS: West Virginia has four Pirates prospects on its roster, according to MLB.com.

  1. INF Ke’Bryan Hayes
  2. INF Cole Tucker
  3. RHP Mitch Keller
  4. Dario Agrazal

Columbia plated three runs in the first inning off of Keller on Thursday. He hadn’t allowed more than two earned runs total in any of his previous eight starts.
