Man dies after fishing boat capsizes in Gilbert
GILBERT, S.C. (WOLO) – A man died this morning in Gilbert after the boat he was fishing from capsized, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources said.
Officials said they were notified around 9:30 a.m. Saturday about the incident. Lexington County Rescue recovered the victim’s body from the private pond around 10:45 a.m.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the victim as Mark Taylor, 52, of Gilbert. An autopsy is planned for Sunday.
DNR said Taylor was fishing from the 10 to 12 foot jon boat with another man and a dog. The other man and dog made it safely to shore. Taylor did not emerge from the water after the boat capsized and sank.
Authorities said neither man was wearing a life jacket. DNR said this is the 11th boating fatality in South Carolina so far this year.
The incident remains under investigation.
