Midlands Events Honor the Fallen on Memorial Day
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — There are plenty of opportunities to pay tribute to our fallen heroes this Memorial Day.
Fort Jackson will be honoring those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation with a Memorial Day Service. That starts at 9:00 a.m. at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
“The Moving Wall Memorial” is heading to Hopkins. The traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial will be set up at the Harriet Barber House Monday at 12:00 p.m. and at 1:00 p.m.
Another replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial is giving residents in Blythewood a chance to pay tribute to our brave service men and women. “The Wall that Heals” will be on display Monday in Doko Meadows Park.
The Palmetto Concert band will be holding their annual Memorial Day Weekend concert. That starts at 4:00 p.m. Monday at the Koger Center. It’s free and open to the public.
“Operation Thank You” will be set up in the lobby outside AMC Dutch Square through Monday night. They’re hoping to collect 3,000 thank you cards for service members, veterans and their families this Memorial Day.
The “Remembering Our Fallen” exhibit will be on display until Wednesday at Dunbar Funeral Home off Devine Street. The exhibit shows the 97 South Carolinians who have been killed in combat since September 11, 2001.
