Blowfish Blow Season Opener In 11 Innings

GASTONIA, N.C. (Blowfish PR) — The Grizzlies walked off Sims Legion Field with an 11 inning walk off victory, eventually defeating Lexington County 9-8.  Gastonia capitalized on costly Blowfish walks that kept the Grizzlies alive in the extra frames throughout.

Chris Hunt (Henderson State) kept the Blowfish at bay tossing 6 strong innings for Gastonia limiting the Blowfish to just 3 hits.  He would strike out 6 Blowfish in the process.

But in the seventh Lexington County would explode for a 4 run inning highlighted by an Adam Yacek (Miami University) two run bomb.

Lexington County added two more in the eighth and benefitted from the strong pitching of Zach Koloziejski (Niagara University) who tossed 4 1/3 innings of 4 hit ball.

But Gastonia would tie the game in the bottom of the 9^th plating 4 Grizzlies to extend the game into extras.

In the top of the 11^th, Bennette Hill (North Greeneville) launched a two run bomb over the right center field wall to give the Blowfish the 8-6 lead.  Lexington County would rely on Doug Gressly (Spartanburg Methodist) to finish the bottom of the 11^th.

Gastonia would go on to load the bases in the home half of the 11^th, tie the game, and eventually win the ballgame off the bat of Alex Reynolds (UNC Charlotte) launching the game winning single into the right center field alley.

The Blowfish return home tomorrow night for the home opener to play in state rival Florence at 7:05p.m.  Wil Crowe gets the start for Lexington County making his first start off of Tommy John Surgery.
