Timmonsville EMS worker Richard Grooms, 58, is charged with malicious injury to property and filing false police report of a felony violation in connection with an incident last Friday in Timmonsville where he reported being shot.

Deputies were actively looking for suspects in the shooting, but said things didn’t add up and questioned if Grooms was telling the truth.

Grooms initially told deputies he was shot in the shoulder at the entrance of Byrd Cemetery while sitting in a Timmonsville Rescue truck.

At the time, he was working but wasn’t responding to a call.

Additional details will be released Thursday afternoon.

We will have more information when it’s released to us.
