Orangeburg Man, 23, Charged with Threatening Deputy
ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WOLO) – A Orangeburg County man is behind bars following a traffic stop that lead to the discovery of drugs, drug paraphernalia and a stolen 9mm handgun officials say.
According to the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office’s incident report, David Anthony Bennett yelled expletives saying to a deputy, “You don’t know who you are (expletive) with, you will (expletive) around and end up somewhere with a bullet in your head (expletive).”
Bennett, 23, was pulled over for a seat belt violation on St. Matthews Road Wednesday afternoon, according to officials.
The incident reports states that deputies noticed a pair of brass knuckles on the front passenger seat and noticed a strong smell like marijuana coming from a baby food bag on the seat next to them.
When deputies opened the bag, they say they discovered four bags of marijuana; one of the bags had 26 individually wrapped bags of marijuana, a digital scale, box of sandwich bags, and $92.
Bennett was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, unlawful carrying of a pistol, possession of a stolen pistol, malicious injury to personal property, and threatening the life of a public official.
“These are serious charges,” Ravenell said. “We take these offenses very seriously.”
Orangeburg County magistrate Jacob Gillens set bond during a hearing Thursday on the St. Ann Street man at $36,092 for all five charges.
The court informed Bennett the bond amount for the content and “fervor” implied by the warrant for the threatening the life of a public official charge was set at $10,000 alone.
Bennett is being held at the Orangeburg-Calhoun Regional Detention Center.
