Haley Vetoes $41M From Legislature’s $7.5B Budget
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – Republican Gov. Nikki Haley has struck $41 million worth of spending from the Legislature’s $7.5 billion budget.
Haley’s 51 vetoes announced Thursday include nearly $9 million of what she calls “old-fashioned pork,” such as $3 million for sports marketing and $100,000 for a Richland County swimming pool.
Fifteen vetoes strike no money.
She vetoed an evaluation of moving the Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum to Charleston. Legislators did not spend anything to display the Confederate flag removed from Statehouse grounds and sent to the museum last summer.
She also vetoed a clause saying grass mowing must be “uniform” at welcome centers and a golf cart entrance at Myrtle Beach State Park must be created at a specific intersection on U.S. Highway 17.
Lawmakers consider overriding her vetoes next week.
