Congressional Challenges in SC Tuesday Primary
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) – Three congressional primaries will be up for grabs Tuesday including a closely watched race between a state legislator and an incumbent GOP congressman.
That race has state Rep. Jenny Horne’s challenging U.S. Rep. Mark Sanford in the Lowcountry. Sanford is a former governor who disappeared for five days in 2009, telling his staff he was hiking the Appalachian trail, only to confess on his return that had been in Argentina with a woman who later became his fiance.
Horne drew national attention last year with her impassioned speech calling for the removal of the Confederate Flag on the Statehouse grounds after the Charleston church shootings.
The other races are in the 5th district that reaches from near Spartanburg to Sumter county and the 2nd District in the Midlands.
