WATCH: Rome Tops Fireflies 4-1

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Fireflies) — Joe Tuschak’s home run wasn’t enough for Columbia on Monday night, the Fireflies fell to the Rome Braves, 4-1, at Spirit Communications Park. The blast was Tuschak’s second of the season.

Columbia (32-32) starter Tyler Badamo (L, 3-4) outlasted Rome’s Touki Toussaint (W, 2-5) the last time the two squared off on the mound on April 12. But on Monday, the Braves starter went a career-high eight innings and let up just three hits.

Badamo still registered seven innings of work and didn’t walk a batter. The righty has now gone 25 straight innings without issuing a free pass.

The visitors plated two runs in the second inning. Wigberto Nevarez and Bradley Keller both doubled and later scored in the inning.

Rome (26-37) then scored an unearned run in the fifth and Nevarez drove home Carlos Castro in the sixth to put the Braves in front, 4-0. Tuschak’s home run came in the bottom of the sixth.

Columbia and Rome battle again on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Manager Jose Leger calls on right-hander Joe Shaw (3-4, 4.24) to face Braves righty Mike Soroka (1-5, 2.59).
