Mother of Small Children Left in Car Arrested

MOM KIDS IN CARLexington County, S.C (WOLO) —

The mother of two small children is behind bars, accused of leaving them alone inside her running car.

According to Lexington officials, Witnesses saw the 5 year old and 23 month old children inside the car for more than 10 minutes after the mother went into a West Columbia store in the 28 hundred block of Augusta Highway.

Officials say the toddler was still inside it’s car seat, while the other child could be seen jumping from the front to back seat of the car.

34 year old Maria Valazques was arrested in the parking lot as she was returning to her car. The two children who were not harmed were released into their father’s custody.

Valazques is charged with unlawful conduct toward a child, a charge that carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison,  a fine,  or both.
