COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – A suspect wanted for attempted murder is behind bars after allegedly barricading himself in an apartment complex Wednesday.

Donald Shavell Ward, 28, was wanted by the Columbia Police Department for allegedly shooting a man during an armed robbery on House Street in December of 2014.

Ward is also charged with armed robbery, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Acting on a Crimestoppers tip, North Region officers, Fugitive Team members, SLED agents, and Richland County Sheriff’s deputies went to the Gable Oaks Apartment to serve Ward with a warrant for failure to appear in court.

Following the two hour stand-off, Ward surrendered and was taken into custody.

Ward is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
