Fireflies Drop Like Flies to Power Sunday
CHARLESTON, WV (Fireflies) – The Fireflies lost the series finale to West Virginia on Sunday afternoon, 4-0, at Appalachian Power Park. Luis Ortega notched a multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-3.
It was a pitchers’ duel early. Joe Shaw (L, 4-6) allowed just three hits over the first four innings and Logan Sendelbach (W, 6-2) surrendered just two. Daniel Arribas broke the tie with a solo home run to begin the bottom of the fifth. West Virginia (7-4, 42-38) added one more that inning to pull in front, 2-0.
The Power scored twice more in the seventh frame. Columbia (3-8, 39-42) managed just five hits on Sunday and had runners in scoring position only twice.
The Fireflies return home for Independence Day baseball on Monday at Spirit Communications Park. The first 3,000 fans to enter the park will receive a mini American flag. Monday is the first of a three-game series with the Charleston RiverDogs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The Fireflies send right-hander Chase Ingram (4-6, 5.22) to the mound to face RiverDogs righty Luis Cedeno (4-3, 4.43).
