Watch: Swimmer Search Resumes

broadriverdrown.jpgEASTOVER, S.C. (WOLO) – The search for a missing swimmer in the Wateree River has resumed.  Richland County Sheriff’s Department deputies and supporting rescue crews arrived back out at the scene around 9 Monday morning.

Five agencies responded to the banks of the river just after 4 p.m. Sunday, after distressed campers called 911 saying a 63-year-old man had not resurfaced from the waters, after wading in for a swim.

The group was camping just downstream from where Garners Ferry Road crosses the river. They told authorities the man is diabetic and he was complaining of fatigue earlier in the day.

Rescue crews said heavy rainfall in the area hindered visibility as they searched Sunday evening. They called off efforts when the sun set.
