Woman passes away two days after house fire

Fatal FireCOLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – A 38-year-old woman passed away, two days after being involved in house fire, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said.

Joy Kester, of Columbia, was in her house in the 2900 block of Kennedy Street on July 5 when it caught fire. The coroner said Kester was take to the Augusta Burn Center in Augusta, GA, where she died 48 hours later from carbon monoxide toxicity due to smoke inhalation during the fire.

The Columbia Fire Department is investigating the incident.
