Gamecock Freshman Tyasha Harris in Double Figures as U.S. Tops Brazil

Tyasha Harris Team USAVALDIVIA, Chile (USC SID) South Carolina freshman Tyasha Harris turned on the scoring in the second game of preliminary round action in the FIBA U18 Americas Championship as the United States topped Brazil 80-59. Nine of the Americans’ 11 first-quarter field goals came from close range as they built a 25-16 lead in the opening 10:00 and steadily added to it in each subsequent period. The Gamecocks’ incoming guard was one of four players in double figures for the U.S.

Harris’ night got going with a drive to the rim for her first basket in the second quarter, helping her team to a 42-30 halftime advantage. She added a 3-pointer and another mid-range jumper in the third quarter as the Americans added five points to their advantage heading into the final quarter.
