Victim dies after shooting in Gadsden; deputies arrest suspect
GADSDEN, S.C. (WOLO) – Richland County Sheriff’s deputies say an altercation between a man and his niece’s boyfriend ended in a fatal shooting Saturday in Gadsden.
Public information officer Lt. Curtis Wilson reported that as of 11:20 a.m., Charles Hopkins, 20, had passed away at Palmetto Health Richland. Hopkins was an Eastover resident who graduated from Lower Richland High School, according to his Facebook page. Lt. Wilson said Hopkins was dating the suspect’s niece.
Ira Ellison, 36, is charged with the murder of Hopkins. Officials report finding Hopkins shot in the upper body in the 2400 block of South Cedar Creek Road around 3:20 p.m. Saturday.
