COLUMBIA, SC – Due to heavy rain, Monday’s game between Columbia and Rome was suspended in the second inning. The game will resume on Thursday, August 4, when the Fireflies begin a four-game series with the Braves.
The game was scoreless with no outs and two Braves runners on base in the top of the second. At 7:26 p.m., the weather delay began and lasted 33 minutes before the game was suspended.
The contest must continue in Rome because the Braves have no more scheduled games at Spirit Communications Park this year. Start time for the resumption of the suspended game is to be determined. The Fireflies will continue as the home team in the suspended game. The originally scheduled game on August 4 will take place afterward as a seven-inning contest.
Columbia enjoys an off-day on Tuesday and begins a seven-game road trip Wednesday night in Hagerstown (Washington Nationals). Joe Shaw (4-6, 4.87) is scheduled to start for the Fireflies with first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m.
You can listen to the action on WGCV 620 AM, 105.1 and 96.3 FM, ColumbiaFireflies.com and the TuneIn Radio app starting at 7:00 p.m.
