Laurens County Coroner Nick Nichols told media outlets that 74-year-old Robert Hamilton had likely been dead for a week when he was found by his landlord at his Ware Shoals mobile home Sunday.

Nichols says it was 100 degrees in the home when first responders arrived and an autopsy found Hamilton died from heat stroke with a lung disease contributing to his death.

Nichols says Hamilton’s landlord said an air conditioner was broken and a fan was blowing in the bedroom where Hamilton was found dead.

National Weather Service data says the highs near Ware Shoals were 99 degree around the time Hamilton died.
