OCSO: Child, Accomplice Wanted for Thank You Note

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WOLO) – The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office is seeking an individual after an incident that occurred last week at the law enforcement complex.

Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said that on July 12 a motorist committed a drive-by act of kindness believed to have been directed at the entire sheriff’s office.

Ravenell explains that at some point during the day, an officer was walking through the parking lot out front of the complex when a motorist pulled up and gave the officer a card.

“We’re asking the public’s help in locating not only the driver but the sender of this card as well,” the sheriff said.

Upon investigation, forensic investigators were able to quickly determine what to do with the suspicious envelope: on the outside it read, “Please open and read!”

Investigators carefully followed those instructions and have determined the envelope was concealing a thank you note. It appears the target of the envelope’s personal message is thanks for the entire staff of the OCSO.

“We’re thankful this message was intercepted when it was,” Ravenell said with a smile. “There’s really no way to measure how our officers would have felt without this message being delivered.”

By carefully analyzing both the handwriting style and message, it appears to investigators the sender may be someone possessing a large capacity for love. They say perhaps even be a child, albeit a mature child.

Meantime, the driver of the car at this point is believed to be the subject’s accomplice.

Ravenell said that if you see this subject, she is to be considered kind and thoughtful. The OCSO normally advises you do not approach persons of interest. This may be an exception.

The forensic examination of the card has also revealed possible photos of the person of interest.

If located, this person is facing a possible maximum thank you from the sheriff’s office.

If you know or have seen this this individual, you are asked to contact the OCSO at 803-533-5823. Callers can remain anonymous.
