Fireflies Vie for Esurance Home Field Advantage Award
COLUMBIA, SC (Fireflies) – As the second half of the season gets underway, Minor League Baseball and Esurance today unveiled the first annual Esurance Home Field Advantage Award. One Minor League Baseball team in each of the 14 leagues will receive the award based on the highest percentage capacity of the ballpark during the 2016 season.
Columbia Fireflies fans are encouraged to continue to support their team in this friendly competition by attending games during the home stretch of the regular season. The winning teams will be announced in September and honored at the 2016 Baseball Winter Meetings™ in National Harbor, Maryland, this December. A celebration for the hometown fans of each winning team will also take place at their respective ballparks at the start of the 2017 season.
“The Midlands is home to some of the most passionate baseball fans in the country,” Team President John Katz said. “There has already been a tremendous outpouring of support all season in our inaugural year in Columbia and we encourage our fans to continue rooting on the Fireflies at Spirit Communications Park.”
The Fireflies’ calendar is packed with fun-filled events to entertain every kind of fan. Some of the upcoming theme nights the rest of the year include Christmas in July (July 30), ’90 Night (8/20) and South Carolina College Sports Night (9/3). The whole family will be dazzled when national entertainment acts like the Amazing Christopher, the K9 Crew and Quick Change visit Spirit Communications Park.
