Gaston Man Dies After Boat Capsizes in Congaree River

CAYCE, S.C. (WOLO) – A Gaston man died after his boat capsized on the Congaree River Saturday afternoon, the Cayce Police Department said.

The Lexington County Coroner said Marvin Browne, 63, passed away. He was fishing with a friend, who was taken to the hospital and treated for exhaustion.

Witnesses reported that Browne did not appear to know how to swim. They tried to revive him on shore, but were not successful.

This happened around noon Saturday. Neither man was wearing a life vest.

The coroner planned to conduct an autopsy Sunday. Cayce Police are investigating what led to the boat’s capsizing.
