WATCH: Lexington County Deputy Involved in Fatal Shooting
LEXINGTON, S.C. (WOLO) – Authorities with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department say one of their deputies was involved in a fatal shooting Monday morning.
Around 7 a.m. Monday morning, the deputy responded to the 100 block of Glenda Court on a call of a suspicious person in a vehicle, officials say.
During the investigation, police say the suspicious person drove toward the deputy, striking him.
According to officials, the deputy then discharged his weapon.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the suspect as 43-year-old Bryan Byrd of Columbia.
Byrd was shot multiple times in the upper body, Fisher said.
The deputy was taken to an area hospital for treatment and was released Monday afternoon, officials say.
Update: we can release that our deputy was hit in the knees by the vehicle, but did not suffer any serious injures.

Authorities say, a preliminary investigation shows that the car and license plates on the vehicle driven by the suspect were both reported stolen in separate incidents and the subject’s driver’s license was suspended.
The suspect was being investigated for a burglary and pointing and presenting a firearm and there was an active arrest warrant for drug paraphernalia on the subject, authorities say.
SLED is still investigating the incident.
