Former Gamecock WR Alshon Jeffery Unsure About Availability Against Broncos
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. (ESPN) — Chicago Bears receiver Alshon Jeffery said on Tuesday that his status for the team’s preseason opener Thursday against the Denver Broncos is up in the air.
“No decision has been made on anyone on the team as to who is going to play and who is not going to play,” Jeffery said.
The Bears are expected to be cautious with Jeffery, who suffered a mild hamstring strain last Wednesday.
However, Bears head coach John Fox and quarterback Jay Cutler said recently they hope Jeffery can play in some exhibition games, especially after he missed the entire 2015 preseason with a severe calf strain. Jeffery went on to miss seven games in the regular season, due to groin, knee, shoulder and hamstring problems.
Jeffery dressed in full pads for practice Monday and Tuesday but did not fully participate, per Fox’s daily injury update.
“I feel better,” said Jeffery, who stressed that he understands the importance of building chemistry with Cutler in the preseason.
