Bulldog Voice Named 2016 Sportscaster of the Year
ORANGEBURG (SCSU) — The “Voice of South Carolina State Football”, Ernest Robinson has been named the 2016 South Carolina Broadcasters Association Sportscaster of the Year for Radio during its annual Star Awards Ceremony held at the Columbia Conference Center in Columbia, S.C.
Robinson won for his call of South Carolina State football during the 2015 season. Winners are chosen by a panel of judges with the South Carolina Broadcasters Association (SCBA), who review submissions in various categories of radio and television. Two finalists are invited from each category and the winner is awarded the Star Award at the ceremony. Robinson’s award winning submission was taken from games heard on the Bulldog Football Radio Network. This is Robinson’s 2nd Star award win having won previously in 2005 in the television category for Best Local Programming while with WACH Fox 57. In that production, he provided play-by-play call of a Capital City Bomber baseball games along with former CY Young award winner Lamar Hoyt.
Robinson started during SC State football broadcasts as a color analyst in 1978 with Brett Lewis and in 1979 with Bulldog Hall of Famers Bill Terrell and the late Sandy Gilliam. Robinson can also, be heard weekday mornings throughout the state of South Carolina on “The Steve Harvey Morning Show” on the Big DM 101 FM, “The John Boy and Bill Show on Fox 102 in Columbia, “The Breakfast Club” on Hot 103.9 and local sports on 1230 AM WOIC ESPN Radio in Columbia with his morning 60 second sports reports. Weekday evenings at 6, he and Bulldog color commentator Bobby Gist co-hosts “Sports Hotline”. The live call-in sports talk show has aired on WOIC-AM 1230 since 1984.
He is currently the President of the Greenview Dolphins Swim Club 5013C Board of Directors, a club that promotes diversity in swimming and opportunities for youth to compete locally, regionally, and nationally in swimming. He is also, a member of the Trenholm Little League Board of Directors serving as Vice-President of Minors Baseball. He has served has head softball coach and head coach of the 6-8 year old Coaches Pitch All-star team.
