Moore’s statement is posted in its entirety below:
Family, Friends, and Supporters: There has been a lot happening this week that you may have heard about on the news or on social media. I have been temporarily suspended from my position as the Chief of Police of Latta. I don’t want to go into any details about this, but I can say to you all that I am proud of the work I’ve done as Latta’s Chief and stand by my record of honesty and accountability. I love being in law enforcement, and nothing anyone can do will change that.
You may have also heard some other rumors about my health, and I feel now is the time to tell everyone who has supported me about what is going on. I was recently diagnosed with Sarcoma, which is a type of cancer that affects soft tissue, I had what was believed to be a cyst at the base of my thumb. In April I had surgery and it was successful. My doctors are positive about my chances of beating it. I will, however, have to take several rounds of chemotherapy to hopefully prevent the cancer from coming back.
Many of you who have suffered from cancer or know a loved one who has, understand chemotherapy is a difficult thing to go through. It will affect my family and my work and may put me down for a while. But I’m telling you right now-it may put me down, but it will not put me out.
I am still running for Sheriff of Dillon County and plan on winning. Nothing-not pettiness, not bigotry, and definitely not cancer-will hold me back.
I am strong because of my family. I am strong because of my faith. I am strong because the people of Dillon County have made me strong.
I am strong enough to beat cancer.
All I ask from you is that you pray for me and all others who suffer from this terrible disease. THANK YOU and GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
