Potential for Flooding in Midlands from Hermine: Safety Tips

COLUMBIA, SC ( WOLO ) – – As Hurricane Hermine churns towards the Carolina Coast and possibly through the midlands, Forecasters say one of the dangers is possible flooding.

As a reminder, here are some tips to avoid trouble during torrential rain and flooding.

Do not walk through moving water.  Six inches of moving water can make you fall. If you have to walk in water, walk where the water is not moving.

Use a stick to check the firmness of the ground in front of you.

Do not drive through rising water, always think “Turn Around, Don’t drown.” Heavy rainfall and low lying roads can be a deadly combination for motorists.

It only take 12 inches of water to move a large SUV or large truck,” say Highway officialsFLOOD-WEEK
