Forest Acres, S.C. (WOLO) —Almost after a year after her husband, Forest Acres Police Officer Greg Alia was killed in the line of duty, his wife continues work in his honor.
Kassy Alia, founder of Heroes in Blue says, “My husband was an amazing man. There are many other men and women who are amazing too and we shouldn’t wait until they die to celebrate them.”
According to Kassy, the controversial climate between law enforcement and the communities they serve was a common conversation between her and her husband.
“He said Kassy, for every one negative story you hear in the news, there are thousands more positive interactions that are happening daily that often go untold,” she told reporters on Tuesday.
His words have become her mission.
Through the Heroes in Blue organization, Kassy is working to bridge that gap through understanding and action.
The organization gained an instant following and resonated with community members.
Former USC football player Marcus Lattimore tells ABC Columbia, “That one percent is always going to be there, that’ll never change but the people who actually care and are in their community every single day and know the people we have to recognize them.”
The organization will be hosting a Knight of Honor on October 7th to show support for officers and raise funds for the Heroes in Blue Compassionate Acts Grant Program.
“It’s not to say that there aren’t bad things and that we don’t but we need to acknowledge the positives and I think the reason we have so much momentum is that the vast majority of people do feel that way.”
